Welcome to the North Carolina Internal Affairs Investigators Association’s official website. The NCIAIA is composed of law enforcement officers and police administrators throughout North Carolina charged with the duty of maintaining professional standards and a code of ethics within their departments.
Our mission as Internal Affairs Investigators is to ensure the professional and ethical discharge of the law enforcement function. The NCIAIA’s core mission is to provide training to individuals like you that are held responsible for carrying out the Internal Affairs functions ensuring fair transparent investigations.
Training is an essential element and one of our greatest assets. The NCIAIA regularly provides training which enhances professional growth and development; presents a forum for discussion of common problems encountered by internal affairs investigators throughout the state; and disseminates information relative to current court decisions, improved technical practices, and administrative procedures.
The Association is currently planning an Internal Affairs Investigators Basic School where new investigators will be introduced to concepts and proven methods of conducting detailed and fair internal affairs investigations. Topics covered will include constructing an internal affairs file, officer’s rights during an investigation, use of body worn cameras and the subsequent release of electronic recordings, per North Carolina Statute, and more. An Officer Involved Shooting investigation class is being planned for the spring of 2019. Please keep a check on this website for more information as it becomes available.
The Association provides an opportunity for investigators to network with individuals in other agencies that are tasked with internal affairs duties. We conclude our training year with an annual conference which not only provides additional training, but also allows investigators to reinforce the professional bonds made. We look forward to open discussions and presentations of ideas surrounding questions concerning investigations.
They’re hundreds of law enforcement agencies within the State of North Carolina, but only a fraction of these are represented in the NCIAIA. One of my goals as President is to maintain our current members and increase new membership from around the state.
The 2019 membership dues are $50 dollars which covers all internal affairs investigators in the agency. Membership benefits also include a reduced rate for training classes offered by the Association. Membership applications are available on the website.
I am humbly honored to be serving as President of this great association, and I am always open to addressing other groups and associations to promote the NCIAIA. We are looking forward to an exciting and prosperous year in the NCIAIA, and I would like to thank past President Stuart Haste for his excellent leadership and the guidance that he provided to this association during his term.
Thank you for visiting the NCIAIA website and again, if you are not a member, we encourage you to become one today and take advantage of the resources available to you.
